Based on the ground-breaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer, MSC teaches core principles and practices that enable participants to respond to difficult moments in their lives with more kindness, care and understanding.
The three key components of self-compassion are self-kindness, a sense of common humanity, and balanced, mindful awareness. Kindness and friendliness opens our hearts to suffering, so we can give ourselves what we need. Common humanity opens us to our essential interrelatedness, so that we know we aren’t alone. Mindfulness opens us to the present moment, so we can accept our experience with greater ease. Together they comprise a state of warm-hearted, connected presence.
This mostly silent retreat is based on MSC principles, with a focus on exploring the heart qualities that in Buddhist teachings are sometimes called the ‘Divine Abodes” – friendliness, compassion, joy and equanimity. How might we spend more of our daily lives ‘growing’ and ‘abiding’ in these wholesome states?
Join us for a mindful 4 days of meditation, movement, nature, wonderful vegetarian food and connection. Suitable for anyone who has done at least a one day silent retreat and wishing to deepen their mindfulness and self-compassion practice. We recommend that you arrange to have the Thursday off work so that you can arrive a little more relaxed and get the most out of the 4 days.
There will be silent periods of lying, sitting and walking meditation as well as some mindful movement. Daily talks, meditation instructions, inquiry and guided still and moving meditations and kindness and compassion will be on offer.
Your Teachers:
This retreat will be taught by MSC teachers Adele Stewart and Maggie O’Shea. Adele is so excited to teach for the first time with Maggie. They both teach in a trauma-sensitive mindfulness framework… and sometimes silent meditation is not appropriate if you have a background of trauma. Please fill out the Expression of Interest form if you want to discuss your suitability for the retreat.
The Venue:
The Brahma Kumaris Centre for Spiritual Learning, Illawarra is a twelve-acre property offering wonderful meditation facilities including a balance of landscaped gardens, open grassed areas and natural bushland. Comfortable single bedrooms with ensuite, featuring timber and sandstone.
All food prepared and served at the retreat centre is pure vegetarian.
